Summary: Yo BEER!
Comment: This guy not only writes one hell of a book, I bet he makes good homebrew as well! Woo Hoo!

Summary: It got me out the door
Comment: I thought it was a pretty good introduction with a lot of useful code. It doesn't have everything you could ask for, like RMI, but it did have a lot of talk about how to write UDP and TCP applications, what the difference is between broadcasting and multicasting, etc. It also had a pretty useful SMTP client that plugged right into my application.

Summary: horrible book
Comment: The author just threw in examples of TCP and UDP programming however did not present any logic of why he does it that way. Moreover he does it wrong anyways. There is only one interesting chapter, the last one, abouty writing custom sockets for protocols other than TCP and UDP. The fonts are very big to cover up space, don't get fooled with the number of pages...nothing new or bright in this book.

Summary: This was the most excellent book on J++ !!!
Comment: It was much, much better than " Core Java " !!

Editorial Reviews:

NETWORK PROGRAMMING WITH VISUAL J++ shows how to extend the power of Visual J++ with coverage of every essential area of network application development. The developers of Visual J++ will be introduced to network programming for the Internet, and will then explore ways to use Visual J++ to employ and extend the Java network package. Sample network applications include chat, broadcast, and Ping. Examples are thoroughly discussed, with advantages of different techniques demonstrated, such as using Visual C++(r) and Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) Libraries to create a custom socket implementation.
